In 2015, the country with the largest volume of the dry peas output was Canada (3,686 thousand tonnes), accounting for 32% of global production. Moreover, dry peas output in Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest producer, China (1,370 thousand tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Russia with a share of 12%.

Global Dry Peas Production

Global dry peas production amounted to 11,548 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +3.2% against the previous year level. Overall, the global dry peas output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern was relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +7% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global dry peas production reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global dry peas production was primarily driven by population growth. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the dry peas output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and solid gains of the yield figures.

The world dry peas harvested area amounted to 6,836 thousand ha in 2015, which was -1.4% less than the previous year figure. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total dry peas harvested area peaked in 2012, falling back in the following year. From 2013 to 2015, the total dry peas harvested area fluctuated at lower levels.
