Which Country Produces the Most Green Beans in the World?

In 2015, the country with the largest volume of the green bean output was China (17,327 thousand tonnes), accounting for 78% of global production. Moreover, green bean output in China exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest producer, Indonesia (854 thousand tonnes), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Turkey with a share of 3%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of green bean producton in China stood at +3.2%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Indonesia (-0.2% per year) and Turkey (+2.9% per year).

Global Green Bean Production

Global green bean production amounted to 22,103 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +1.8% against the previous year level. Overall, the global green bean output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +5% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global green bean production reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global green bean production was primarily driven by popularity of healthy eating and growth of population. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the green bean output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a measured expansion of the harvested area and solid gains of the yield figures.

The world green bean harvested area amounted to 1,530 thousand ha in 2015, which was almost equal to the previous year figure. The green bean harvested area indicated a slight increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +0.8% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total green bean harvested area peaked in 2013, falling back in the following year.
