In 2015, the countries with the highest levels of green coffee production were Brazil (2,702 thousand tonnes), Viet Nam (1,477 thousand tonnes), Colombia (881 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 57% of total output.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of green coffee production among the main producing countries was attained by Brazil (+2.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Global Green Coffee Production

Global green coffee production amounted to 8,801 thousand tonnes in 2015, standing approx. at the previous year level. Overall, the global green coffee output pursued a moderate growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern was relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +9% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global green coffee production attained its maximum volume of 8,891 thousand tonnes in 2013. From 2014 to 2015, the total green coffee output growth failed to regain its strength.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global green coffee production was primarily driven by population growth. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the green coffee output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a slight curtailment of the harvested area and solid gains of the yield figures.

The world green coffee harvested area amounted to 10,596 thousand ha in 2015, which was 1.1% more than the previous year figure. The green coffee harvested area indicated a small contraction over the period under review, declining by an average annual rate of -0.2% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total green coffee harvested area peaked in 2007, declining in the following year. From 2008 to 2015, the total green coffee harvested area fluctuated at lower levels.
