In 2015, the countries with the highest levels of nutmeg, mace and cardamom production in 2015 were Guatemala (43 thousand tonnes), Indonesia (36 thousand tonnes), India (21 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 89% of total output.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of nutmeg, mace and cardamom production among the main producing countries was attained by India (+5.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Global Nutmeg, Mace And Cardamoms Production

Global nutmeg, mace and cardamom production amounted to 113 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +6.2% against the previous year level. Overall, the global nutmeg, mace and cardamom output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when the output figure increased by +23% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global nutmeg, mace and cardamom production reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global nutmeg, mace and cardamom production was primarily driven by population growth, disposable income growth, and diversification of diet. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the nutmeg, mace and cardamom output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The world nutmeg, mace and cardamom harvested area amounted to 370 thousand ha in 2015, which was 4.6% more than the previous year figure. The nutmeg, mace and cardamom harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +4.2% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total nutmeg, mace and cardamom harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand over the globe.
