In 2015, the countries with the highest levels of orange production were Brazil (16,413 thousand tonnes), India (8,992 thousand tonnes), China (8,342 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 45% of total output.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of orange production among the main producing countries was attained by China (+10.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the output figures.

Global Oranges Production

Global orange production amounted to 74,536 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +3.0% against the previous year level. Overall, the global orange output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern was relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +6% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global orange production reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global orange production was primarily driven by disposable income growth and population growth. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the orange output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a measured expansion of the harvested area and solid gains of the yield figures.

The world orange harvested area amounted to 4,147 thousand ha in 2015, which was 3.2% more than the previous year figure. The orange harvested area indicated a slight increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +0.6% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total orange harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand over the globe.
