Argon Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average argon export price stood at $877 per thousand cubic meters in June 2023, increasing by 2.3% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a measured increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, argon export price increased by +3.7% against January 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 19% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($1.2 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($570 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Argon Price in Germany (CIF) - 2022
The average argon import price stood at $0.5 per cubic meter in 2022, growing by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $0.5 per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($0.6 per cubic meter), while the price for the Czech Republic ($0.3 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Argon Exports in Germany
Argon exports from Germany contracted to 63M cubic meters in 2022, which is down by -12.5% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 74M cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, argon exports shrank to $38M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $41M, and then fell in the following year.
