Avocado Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average avocado import price amounted to $2,736 per ton, reducing by -12.1% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated measured growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, avocado import price decreased by -12.1% against August 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 23% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,114 per ton in August 2023, and then declined in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,813 per ton), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($1,697 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Avocado Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average avocado export price stood at $2,507 per ton in September 2023, shrinking by -3.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,691 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,505 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait stood at $1,789 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+0.9%).
Avocado Imports in the United States
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of avocados decreased by -6.6% to 1.1M tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 8.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.2M tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, avocado imports rose significantly to $3.3B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Avocado Exports in the United States
In 2022, shipments abroad of avocados decreased by -19.7% to 49K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 67K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, avocado exports declined slightly to $150M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 6.6%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $164M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The average import price increased by 1.7% against the previous month, but recorded a perceptible slump overall. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 23% m-o-m. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern, with the most prominent rate of growth recorded in March 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible reduction.
