The third position in this ranking was held by Bangladesh (26K tons), with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Turkey stood at +29.2%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: China (-1.2% per year) and Bangladesh (+2.3% per year).

Imports

In 2022, purchases abroad of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) increased by 12% to 102K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. Global imports peaked at 140K tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby clothes imports stood at $2.3B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 9.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.1B. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of global imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports By Country

In 2022, the United States (20K tons), distantly followed by France (6.2K tons), Spain (5.9K tons), Malaysia (5.2K tons), the UK (4.9K tons) and Germany (4.7K tons) were the key importers of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted), together achieving 46% of total imports. The following importers - Poland (3.5K tons), Iraq (2.9K tons), the United Arab Emirates (2.7K tons), the Netherlands (2.5K tons), Italy (2.5K tons), Thailand (2.2K tons) and Saudi Arabia (1.8K tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted). At the same time, Thailand (+30.8%), Malaysia (+19.5%), Poland (+18.3%), Iraq (+17.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +30.8% from 2012-2022. The Netherlands, Spain and Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-2.6%), Italy (-3.7%), Saudi Arabia (-8.7%) and the UK (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+4.4 p.p.), the United States (+3.3 p.p.), Poland (+2.9 p.p.), Iraq (+2.4 p.p.) and Thailand (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Saudi Arabia and the UK saw its share reduced by -1.5% and -6.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($424M), France ($215M) and Spain ($176M) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 35% share of global imports. Germany, the UK, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +43.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average baby clothes import price amounted to $22,511 per ton, declining by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 9.2%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $23,957 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($36,407 per ton), while Malaysia ($2,677 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 37%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 117K tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby clothes exports expanded significantly to $2.5B in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3B. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports By Country

Bangladesh (24K tons) and China (19K tons) represented roughly 42% of total exports in 2022. Turkey (10K tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9.8% share, followed by Spain (7.2%) and India (6.7%). Indonesia (4.2K tons), Vietnam (3K tons), the United Arab Emirates (2.7K tons), Poland (2.6K tons), Thailand (2.5K tons), the Netherlands (2.3K tons), Cambodia (2K tons) and France (1.8K tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +17.8%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest baby clothes supplying countries worldwide were Bangladesh ($562M), China ($432M) and India ($240M), together comprising 49% of global exports. Spain, Turkey, Vietnam, Poland, Indonesia, France, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
