Global imports peaked at 214K tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guatemala (+59.5%), Egypt (+10.2%), Turkey (+10.0%), Spain (+8.5%) and Thailand (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guatemala emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +59.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (-4.7%), Mexico (-5.4%) and Brazil (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+19 p.p.), Turkey (+3.6 p.p.), Guatemala (+3 p.p.) and Spain (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while South Africa, Brazil and Mexico saw its share reduced by -2.4%, -3.2% and -4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($369M) remains the largest barbed wire supplier worldwide, comprising 67% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($25M), with a 4.6% share of global exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +20.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+10.2% per year) and Spain (+8.8% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average barbed wire export price amounted to $2,556 per ton, growing by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, barbed wire export price increased by +106.0% against 2017 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
