Beer Price in Portugal (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average beer export price amounted to $1.1 per litre, declining by -6.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1.1 per litre in June 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cuba ($1.6 per litre), while the average price for exports to Spain ($865 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cuba (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Price in Portugal (CIF) - 2023
The average beer import price stood at $893 per thousand litres in July 2023, which is down by -16.3% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated mild growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, beer import price increased by +12.8% against January 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 31% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1.1 per litre, and then reduced rapidly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1.9 per litre), while the price for Spain ($750 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Exports in Portugal
Beer exports from Portugal expanded sharply to 195M litres in 2022, increasing by 5.8% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 8.6% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 206M litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, beer exports amounted to $160M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 4.6%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Beer Imports in Portugal
