Eggplant Price in South Korea (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average eggplant export price amounted to $3,460 per ton, growing by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, eggplant export price increased by +68.4% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($8,495 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($2,028 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average eggplant import price stood at $885 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 68%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,617 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($2,750 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-19.0%).
Eggplant Exports in South Korea
In 2022, shipments abroad of eggplants (aubergines) decreased by -58% to 47 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a dramatic decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 4% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 129 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, eggplant exports contracted dramatically to $162K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 14%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $321K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Eggplant Imports in South Korea
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of eggplants (aubergines), when their volume increased by 73% to 52 kg. In general, imports, however, recorded a dramatic curtailment.
In value terms, eggplant imports skyrocketed to $46 in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant decline.
