In value terms, the largest escalator markets worldwide were China ($556M), India ($435M) and the United States ($376M), with a combined 51% share of the global market. Germany, Japan, France, the UK, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil, Pakistan and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

Among the main consuming countries, Chile, with a CAGR of +8.2%, saw the highest growth rate of market size over the period under review, while market for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

China (32K units) constituted the country with the largest volume of escalator production, comprising approx. 39% of total volume. By contrast, Spain (-9.8%), the Czech Republic (-11.9%), Germany (-12.8%) and Slovakia (-15.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+16 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the Czech Republic, Spain, Germany and Slovakia saw its share reduced by -2.2%, -2.6%, -4% and -4.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($450M) remains the largest escalator supplier worldwide, comprising 76% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($25M), with a 4.3% share of global exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled -1.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (-6.9% per year) and Spain (-7.1% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average escalator export price amounted to $33,284 per unit, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($54,961 per unit), while Poland ($14,301 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
