Lactose Price in Iran (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average lactose import price amounted to $1,855 per ton, increasing by 6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,255 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($2,345 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($2,274 per ton), while the price for Germany ($1,566 per ton) and Italy ($1,591 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Lactose Price in Iran (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average lactose export price amounted to $1,403 per ton, declining by -21.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,766 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($13,661 per ton), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan ($231 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Lactose Imports in Iran
In 2022, lactose imports into Iran rose sharply to 9.3K tons, surging by 5.3% against the year before. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 9.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lactose imports rose sharply to $17M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.

Lactose Exports in Iran
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of lactose and lactose syrup, when their volume increased by 256% to 24 tons. Overall, exports, however, showed a sharp contraction.
