Lemon and Lime Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average lemon and lime import price amounted to $1,041 per ton, growing by 11% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 34% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,797 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Colombia ($1,672 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($840 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lemon and Lime Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average lemon and lime export price stood at $1,830 per ton in September 2023, growing by 9.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,631 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,164 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lemon and Lime Imports in the United States

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of lemons and limes, when their volume decreased by -8.8% to 813K tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 7.5%.

In value terms, lemon and lime imports rose markedly to $906M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
