Lentil Price in Spain (CIF) - 2023

The average lentil import price stood at $1,203 per ton in June 2023, picking up by 4% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 6.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,425 per ton), while the price for France ($581 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Lentil Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average lentil export price amounted to $2,436 per ton, rising by 21% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated measured growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, lentil export price increased by +65.1% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 36% m-o-m. The export price peaked in June 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cuba ($10,913 per ton), while the average price for exports to Madagascar ($77.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cuba (+16.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lentil Imports in Spain

In 2022, supplies from abroad of lentils decreased by -10.5% to 35K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 59K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lentil imports skyrocketed to $40M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.

Lentil Exports in Spain

In 2022, overseas shipments of lentils decreased by -36.4% to 3.5K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 6.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lentil exports contracted significantly to $4.6M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $6.2M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
