Live Fish Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average live fish import price amounted to $15,956 per ton, rising by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 90%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($207,000 per ton), while the price for Kenya ($1,250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+22.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average live fish export price stood at $1,738 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -11.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $25,030 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($6,595 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bahrain ($889 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Live Fish Imports in Uganda
Live fish imports into Uganda declined markedly to 317 kg in 2022, falling by -48.7% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 75%.
In value terms, live fish imports fell significantly to $5.1K in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 233%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $7.8K, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Live Fish Exports in Uganda
In 2022, approx. 313 kg of live fish were exported from Uganda; which is down by -22.3% on 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 217% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 403 kg, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, live fish exports contracted notably to $544 in 2022. Overall, exports faced a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 166% against the previous year.
