The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum at 6.8M tons in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, marble granules and powder imports fell modestly to $569M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Germany ($157M) constitutes the largest market for imported granules, chippings and powder of marble worldwide, comprising 28% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($48M), with an 8.5% share of global imports. It was followed by Finland, with a 6.8% share.

In Germany, marble granules and powder imports plunged by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Austria (+26.2% per year) and Finland (+17.6% per year).

Exports

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of granules, chippings and powder of marble decreased by -7.3% to 5.7M tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 6.6M tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, marble granules and powder exports shrank to $503M in 2022.
