MDF Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2022
The average MDF import price stood at $738 per cubic meter in 2022, rising by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,009 per cubic meter), while the price for Belarus ($386 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
The average MDF export price stood at $1,023 per cubic meter in September 2023, rising by 5.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 40% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,645 per cubic meter in December 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($1,118 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Japan ($729 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
MDF Imports in Latvia
For the fourth year in a row, Latvia recorded growth in purchases abroad of MDF, which increased by 2% to 28K cubic meters in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, MDF imports expanded significantly to $20M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +77.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 42%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

MDF Exports in Latvia
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of MDF decreased by -89% to 3.6K cubic meters in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1,248%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 33K cubic meters, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, MDF exports fell rapidly to $4.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 595%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $16M, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
