In value terms, the United States ($314M), the UK ($220M) and Japan ($122M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2022, together accounting for 17% of the global market. China, Austria, India, France, South Korea, Indonesia, Germany, Russia, Italy and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +16.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of market size in terms of the main consuming countries over the period under review, while market for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

World Production of Mechanical Stokers

In 2022, global mechanical stoker production stood at 124K tons, approximately equating the year before. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 139K tons. From 2017 to 2022, global production growth remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mechanical stoker production shrank to $3.7B in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production reached the peak level at $4.2B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

China (23K tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of mechanical stoker production, comprising approx. 18% of total volume. Moreover, mechanical stoker production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United States (11K tons), twofold. Austria (9.4K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 7.6% share.

In China, mechanical stoker production increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United States (+10.7% per year) and Austria (-5.4% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Mechanical Stokers

In 2022, purchases abroad of mechanical stokers decreased by -9.3% to 24K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 39K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mechanical stoker imports shrank remarkably to $172M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $246M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports By Country

Indonesia was the key importing country with an import of about 11K tons, which accounted for 45% of total imports. Russia (2.2K tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.1% share, followed by France (8.5%). Nigeria (1,077 tons), Germany (977 tons), the United States (782 tons), Italy (701 tons), Brazil (682 tons), the UK (586 tons) and China (391 tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mechanical stoker imports into Indonesia stood at +19.0%. At the same time, Nigeria (+50.5%), Italy (+11.8%), France (+8.4%), the United States (+5.0%), China (+2.5%), Russia (+2.1%) and the UK (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +50.5% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Brazil (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Indonesia, Nigeria, France and Italy increased by +34, +4.4, +3.2 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($33M), Indonesia ($31M) and France ($21M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 50% of global imports. Germany, the United States, China, Brazil, the UK, Italy and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +48.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average mechanical stoker import price amounted to $7,180 per ton, reducing by -20.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 45% against the previous year. Global import price peaked at $11,880 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($18,852 per ton), while Indonesia ($2,859 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

World Exports of Mechanical Stokers

Global mechanical stoker exports dropped to 12K tons in 2022, which is down by -11.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure at 25K tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mechanical stoker exports reduced to $147M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum at $243M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports By Country

China (2.3K tons), Germany (1.9K tons), Italy (1.7K tons) and Austria (1.6K tons) represented roughly 60% of total exports in 2022. Poland (936 tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 7.5% share, followed by Brazil (4.7%) and Hungary (4.6%). Denmark (560 tons), South Korea (524 tons), Russia (330 tons) and Portugal (232 tons) held a little share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +62.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

The average mechanical stoker export price stood at $11,743 per ton in 2022, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($38,321 per ton), while Russia ($2,937 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
