The countries with the highest volumes of consumption in 2022 were China (393K units), the United States (287K units) and India (165K units), with a combined 34% share of global consumption. The Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, Belarus, Israel, Pakistan and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +26.8%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($899M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($391M). It was followed by Germany.

In Japan, the milking machine market expanded at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of market growth: the Netherlands (+26.9% per year) and Germany (+5.3% per year).

Production By Country

China (432K units) constituted the country with the largest volume of milking machine production, accounting for 19% of total volume. Moreover, milking machine production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (161K units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (111K units), with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in China stood at +3.2%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+3.1% per year) and the Netherlands (-3.8% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Milking Machines

In 2022, global milking machine imports rose sharply to 408K units, picking up by 13% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure at 584K units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, milking machine imports expanded slightly to $622M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -1.3% against 2019 indices. The United States prevails in imports structure, amounting to 290K units, which was approx. 71% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (23K units), making up a 5.6% share of total imports. Bolivia (13K units), India (11K units) and Germany (7.3K units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the United States decreased at an average annual rate of -6.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bolivia (+42.8%), Tunisia (+42.7%), Germany (+17.0%) and India (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bolivia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Tunisia (+5.5 p.p.), Bolivia (+3.2 p.p.), India (+1.7 p.p.) and Germany (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United States (-21.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Germany ($100M) constitutes the largest market for imported milking machines worldwide, comprising 16% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($8.1M), with a 1.3% share of global imports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 0.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany stood at +5.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United States (-6.1% per year) and Tunisia (-4.9% per year).

Import Prices By Country

The average milking machine import price stood at $1,523 per unit in 2022, declining by -9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. Exports

World Exports of Milking Machines

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of milking machines, when their volume increased by 89% to 197K units. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 91%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 830K units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, milking machine exports expanded significantly to $624M in 2022. In general, exports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports By Country

In 2022, Singapore (67K units), distantly followed by China (39K units), New Zealand (14K units), Israel (13K units), Sweden (11K units) and the Netherlands (9.9K units) represented the key exporters of milking machines, together generating 78% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (7.1K units), India (7K units), Germany (6.2K units), Turkey (4.6K units) and the UK (4.2K units) held a little share of total exports.
