Narrow Fabric Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average narrow fabric import price amounted to $5.7 per square meter, dropping by -2.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $6.0 per square meter in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($6.5 per square meter), while the price for Japan ($3.2 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Narrow Fabric Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average narrow fabric export price amounted to $11.7 per square meter, standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.3% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $12.0 per square meter in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($13.1 per square meter), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($8.6 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Narrow Fabric Imports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of narrow fabrics and schiffli machine embroidery, which increased by 8.9% to 203M square meters in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 1,913% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, narrow fabric imports rose sharply to $1.2B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of narrow fabrics and schiffli machine embroidery, when their volume decreased by -0.3% to 82M square meters. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 567% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 82M square meters in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, narrow fabric exports dropped to $953M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $961M, leveling off in the following year.
