The average non-liquid margarine import price stood at $1,073 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -5.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 44% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,726 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($1,881 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($912 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In June 2023, the average non-liquid margarine export price amounted to $3,560 per ton, picking up by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, non-liquid margarine export price increased by +60.6% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 52% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $3,839 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($3,446 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($2,076 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nepal (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Liquid Margarine Imports in China
In 2022, purchases abroad of non-liquid margarine decreased by -15.3% to 21K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 27K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-liquid margarine imports rose significantly to $26M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
