World Consumption of Other Agglomerates

In 2022, consumption of other agglomerates increased by 2.4% to 9.5M tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the consumption volume increased by 6.4% against the previous year. Global consumption peaked at 12M tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The global other agglomerates market revenue rose modestly to $1.9B in 2022, picking up by 2% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $2.5B. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the global market failed to regain momentum.

Consumption By Country

Brazil (2.4M tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of other agglomerates consumption, accounting for 25% of total volume. Moreover, other agglomerates consumption in Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, Sweden (825K tons), threefold. Russia (723K tons) ranked third in terms of total consumption with a 7.6% share.

In Brazil, other agglomerates consumption remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (-5.7% per year) and Russia (+22.0% per year).

In value terms, Brazil ($1.1B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($83M). It was followed by Russia.

In Brazil, the other agglomerates market remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of market growth: Germany (-1.0% per year) and Russia (+29.4% per year).

The countries with the highest levels of other agglomerates per capita consumption in 2022 were Sweden (79 kg per person), Croatia (64 kg per person) and Norway (62 kg per person).

Production

World Production of Other Agglomerates

In 2022, approx. 9.6M tons of other agglomerates were produced worldwide; picking up by 2.2% on the year before. In general, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 6.6%. Over the period under review, global production reached the maximum volume in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, other agglomerates production declined slightly to $1.5B in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 156%. Global production peaked at $3.8B in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

Brazil (2.4M tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of other agglomerates production, comprising approx. 25% of total volume. Moreover, other agglomerates production in Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Russia (765K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ukraine (551K tons), with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Brazil was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+5.2% per year) and Ukraine (+19.9% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Other Agglomerates

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of other agglomerates decreased by -0.6% to 2.5M tons in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 9.1% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 9.4M tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, other agglomerates imports expanded significantly to $425M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at $775M in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports By Country

In 2022, Sweden (644K tons), distantly followed by Germany (312K tons), South Korea (193K tons), the United States (155K tons), Italy (139K tons), France (138K tons) and the UK (126K tons) represented the main importers of other agglomerates, together committing 67% of total imports. The following importers - Japan (77K tons), Belgium (71K tons), Lithuania (67K tons), Switzerland (66K tons), Denmark (64K tons) and Portugal (63K tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

Imports into Sweden decreased at an average annual rate of -6.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the UK (+32.3%), Japan (+22.2%), Portugal (+10.6%) and South Korea (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United States (-3.7%), Switzerland (-5.8%), Lithuania (-6.6%), Denmark (-7.1%), France (-11.2%), Italy (-13.9%), Germany (-14.7%) and Belgium (-27.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Sweden, South Korea, the UK, the United States, Japan and Portugal increased by +11, +6.1, +4.8, +3.6, +2.9 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($52M), the United States ($43M) and South Korea ($42M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 32% of global imports. The UK, Japan, France, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Lithuania and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

The UK, with a CAGR of +22.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average other agglomerates import price stood at $167 per ton in 2022, surging by 6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($315 per ton), while Sweden ($25 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+13.9%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports

World Exports of Other Agglomerates

In 2022, approx. 2.6M tons of other agglomerates were exported worldwide; approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at 7.2M tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other agglomerates exports rose rapidly to $489M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $879M in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports By Country

Ukraine (340K tons) and France (310K tons) represented the key exporters of other agglomerates in 2022, resulting at approx. 13% and 12% of total exports, respectively. It was followed by Germany (201K tons), Latvia (186K tons), Spain (167K tons), Canada (157K tons), Poland (146K tons), Belgium (130K tons) and Sweden (119K tons), together comprising a 42% share of total exports. Lithuania (110K tons), the Netherlands (106K tons), Vietnam (97K tons) and the Czech Republic (64K tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest other agglomerates supplying countries worldwide were Poland ($46M), Canada ($43M) and Ukraine ($38M), together comprising 26% of global exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +12.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average other agglomerates export price amounted to $186 per ton, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, other agglomerates export price increased by +7.1% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The global export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($335 per ton), while France ($59 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
