Potato Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average potato export price stood at $379 per ton in August 2023, shrinking by -16.9% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a notable increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, potato export price decreased by -25.7% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 70% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $511 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Norway ($1,338 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mali ($440 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jamaica (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Potato Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average potato import price amounted to $355 per ton, falling by -3.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 25% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $367 per ton in July 2023, and then fell slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($511 per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Potato Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, exports of potatoes from the Netherlands expanded remarkably to 2.5M tons, growing by 9.9% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, potato exports surged to $985M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
