In 2022, the average import price for acids; aromatic polycarboxylic acids; phthalic anhydrides amounted to $1,406 per ton, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 39%. The import price peaked at $1,438 per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Russia ($1,406 per ton) and India ($1,406 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,406 per ton) and Italy ($1,406 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of acids; aromatic polycarboxylic acids; phthalic anhydrides decreased by -14.4% to 20K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 24K tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, imports of acids; aromatic polycarboxylic acids; phthalic anhydrides rose sharply to $28M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 89%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
