The average import price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms stood at $2,195 per ton in August 2023, falling by -25.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 64% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,100 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,945 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($1,602 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price continues to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 238% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($26,116 per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($1,207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+27.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third year in a row, Ukraine recorded decline in overseas purchases of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms, which decreased by -72% to 932 tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -27% was in 2021.

In value terms, imports of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms fell markedly to $2.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 3.2% against the previous year.
