The average import price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows stood at $4,382 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $4,496 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($5,826 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($3,638 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In December 2023, the average export price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows amounted to $5,608 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2023 when the average export price increased by 156% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $13,423 per ton. From November 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($20,952 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($2,311 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+125.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 48K tons of aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows were imported into Australia; with a decrease of -14.4% compared with 2021 figures.
