Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Greece (CIF) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $2,084 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -1.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 9.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $2,711 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,473 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,635 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,999 per ton, picking up by 6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in June 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($2,294 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,331 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Greece

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -12.2% to 90K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports shrank dramatically to $160M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 94%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $211M, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -20.9% to 25K tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 31K tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports contracted rapidly to $33M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 149%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $47M, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
