Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Luxembourg (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,996 per ton, reducing by -1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 2.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,313 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Belgium ($2,223 per ton) and Germany ($2,017 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,724 per ton) and France ($1,888 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In May 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,274 per ton, with a decrease of -31.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 37% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,646 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to May 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($1,551 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($826 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (-1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Luxembourg

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps imported into Luxembourg contracted to 146K tons, declining by -8.9% on 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 160K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports fell remarkably to $255M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $317M, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
