Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in New Zealand (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,511 per ton, shrinking by -11.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,798 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($1,854 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($707 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,254 per ton in July 2023, increasing by 26% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 38% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,091 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($3,307 per ton), while the price for French Polynesia ($375 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, approx. 70K tons of aluminium waste and scraps were exported from New Zealand; waning by -37.4% compared with 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a strong increase.
