In 2022, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price amounted to $3,879 per ton, with a decrease of -2.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 30% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $5,665 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($5,504 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($2,194 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+53.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price stood at $3,850 per ton in 2022, waning by -2.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,937 per ton in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($7,119 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($673 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Vietnam
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of cocoa; paste, not defatteds, when their volume decreased by -12.1% to 815 tons. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 211% against the previous year.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted exports contracted to $3.2M in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 232%.

In 2022, purchases abroad of cocoa; paste, not defatteds increased by 5.4% to 340 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted imports expanded slightly to $1.3M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction.
