Price for Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in India (FOB) - 2023

In November 2023, the average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $9,409 per ton, approximately equating the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $10,192 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,783 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($5,449 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $8,057 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -23.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 56%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $10,561 per ton, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,148 per ton), while the price for Israel ($4,537 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, India recorded growth in shipments abroad of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 24% to 77K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 28%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds skyrocketed to $790M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +23.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +88.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Overall, imports saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 185%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 873 tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
