Price for Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Slovenia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $9,633 per ton, rising by 3.4% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $9,786 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($19,674 per ton), while the price for Croatia ($6,754 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $9,370 per ton, increasing by 4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds increased by +121.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($16,842 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($7,576 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds decreased by -25.2% to 529 tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 707 tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds contracted significantly to $4.7M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +23.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $6M, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds fell sharply to $1.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 127%.
