Price for Cumin Seeds, Neither Crushed Nor Ground in India (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground stood at $5,365 per ton in October 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant increase from November 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.1% over the last eleven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, export price for cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground increased by +14.6% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 28% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $5,375 per ton in September 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($7,096 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($2,370 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Afghanistan (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground stood at $2,475 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The import price peaked at $2,937 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($3,184 per ton), while the price for China ($2,028 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Cumin Seeds, Neither Crushed Nor Ground in India
In 2022, overseas shipments of cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground decreased by -22.1% to 178K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 264K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground rose modestly to $460M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $505M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
