The average import price for tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) stood at $11,217 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $17,929 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($114,333 per ton), while the price for India ($6,678 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+24.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Imports of Cupro-Nickel and Nickel Silver Tubes and Pipes in Sri Lanka
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver), when their volume decreased by -41.9% to 2.4 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 391% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.1 tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, imports of tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) fell dramatically to $26K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 185% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $42K, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
