Price for Fruit, Edible; Durians, Fresh in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average fruit, edible; durians, fresh import price stood at $3,634 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 7.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 26% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $3,969 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($4,596 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($2,420 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average fruit, edible; durians, fresh export price amounted to $2,702 per ton, reducing by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,178 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Mexico ($2,615 per ton) and China ($2,615 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($2,615 per ton) and Germany ($2,615 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of fruit, edible; durians, freshes decreased by -22.5% to 2.4K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38%.

In value terms, fruit, edible; durians, fresh imports declined significantly to $8M in 2022. In general, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $10M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
