Price for Glass Fibre and Article in Ethiopia (CIF) - 2022

The average glass fibre and article import price stood at $2,593 per ton in 2022, picking up by 6.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 36%. The import price peaked at $2,654 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,626 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($2,261 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average glass fibre and article export price stood at $4,100 per ton in 2022, reducing by -19.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,600 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Rwanda.

From 2013 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Cote d'Ivoire amounted to +152.5% per year.

Imports of Glass Fibre and Article in Ethiopia

In 2022, approx. 2.4K tons of glass fibres and glass fibre articles were imported into Ethiopia; jumping by 33% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.

In value terms, glass fibre and article imports soared to $6.3M in 2022.
