Price for Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Brazil (FOB) - 2023

The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $2,375 per ton in October 2023, declining by -11.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, grapes; fresh or dried export price decreased by -11.7% against September 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,255 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,933 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1,729 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapes; fresh or dried import price stood at $1,915 per ton in October 2023, flattening at the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 5.6% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in October 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Peru ($2,635 per ton), while the price for India ($1,014 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Brazil

In 2022, overseas shipments of grapes; fresh or drieds decreased by -31.5% to 53K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +16.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 77K tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried exports reduced rapidly to $108M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated tangible growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 46%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $160M, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
