Price for Hydrogen, Rare Gases and Other Non-Metals in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average import price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses amounted to $1.6 per cubic meter, increasing by 58% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 62%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($6.1 per cubic meter), while the price for Poland ($0.4 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+19.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In November 2023, the average export price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses amounted to $439 per thousand cubic meters, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from November 2022 to November 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2023 figures, export price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses increased by +2.6% against September 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 63% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $509 per thousand cubic meters in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1.3 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Germany ($225 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Hydrogen, Rare Gases and Other Non-Metals in the Czech Republic

In 2022, the amount of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses imported into the Czech Republic dropped rapidly to 78M cubic meters, waning by -31.1% compared with 2021. In general, imports saw a significant contraction. The smallest decline of -7.1% was in 2021. Imports peaked at 162M cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses expanded sharply to $125M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
