The average import price for mucilages and thickeners; agar-agar, whether or not modified, derived from vegetable productses stood at $12,297 per ton in 2022, reducing by -38.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 27%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $20,889 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($19,425 per ton), while the price for China stood at $10,186 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $26,700 per ton, and then fell notably in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($10,444 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada totaled $8,667 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of mucilages and thickeners; agar-agar, whether or not modified, derived from vegetable productses dropped notably to $120K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19%.

In value terms, exports of mucilages and thickeners; agar-agar, whether or not modified, derived from vegetable productses dropped notably to $198 in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a dramatic slump. The smallest decline of -39% was in 2021.
