The average import price for mucilages and thickeners; agar-agar, whether or not modified, derived from vegetable productses stood at $12,297 per ton in 2022, reducing by -38.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 27%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $20,889 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($19,425 per ton), while the price for China stood at $10,186 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of mucilages and thickeners; agar-agar, whether or not modified, derived from vegetable productses dropped notably to $120K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19%.
