The average nickel; waste and scrap import price stood at $5,767 per ton in 2022, rising by 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 50%. The import price peaked at $6,469 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports of Nickel; Waste and Scrap in Nepal

Nickel; waste and scrap imports into Nepal declined rapidly to 4.5 tons in 2022, waning by -34.6% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +14.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 75%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 6.8 tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, nickel; waste and scrap imports declined dramatically to $26K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +37.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $34K, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
