Price for Nuts (Prepared or Preserved) in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average nuts (prepared or preserved) import price stood at $5,589 per ton in September 2023, picking up by 19% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 29% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,183 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,615 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,417 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In September 2023, the average nuts (prepared or preserved) export price amounted to $9,148 per ton, with an increase of 36% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 46% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $10,447 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($40,475 per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($3,260 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+34.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Nuts (Prepared or Preserved) in Australia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of nuts (prepared or preserved) decreased by -8.7% to 17K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 19K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, nuts (prepared or preserved) imports totaled $91M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
