In 2022, the average import price for pitch coke; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses amounted to $600 per ton, growing by 4.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $810 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($2,021 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($93 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+23.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of pitch coke; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses, when their volume decreased by -15% to 765 tons. Overall, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 45% against the previous year.
In value terms, imports of pitch coke; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses fell to $459K in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +40.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $515K, and then fell in the following year.
