The average import price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants stood at $282 per thousand units in October 2023, rising by 18% against the previous month. In general, the import price posted a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 557% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $0.6 per unit. From July 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2.4 per unit), while the price for Poland ($92.0 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+37.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants amounted to $0.1 per unit, dropping by -10.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 44%. The export price peaked at $0.2 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($0.5 per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports saw a deep contraction. The smallest decline of -7% was in 2020. Imports peaked at 23M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants contracted sharply to $5.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a modest increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at $8.7M in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
