Price for Seed; Fescue, of A Kind Used for Sowing in China (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for seed; fescue, of a kind used for sowings stood at $2,341 per ton in December 2023, dropping by -1.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,260 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,420 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($2,284 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Imports of Seed; Fescue, of A Kind Used for Sowing in China

In 2022, supplies from abroad of seed; fescue, of a kind used for sowings decreased by -4.2% to 20K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 21K tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of seed; fescue, of a kind used for sowings rose sharply to $47M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
