The average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $4,999 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 4.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 9.2% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,409 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($27,966 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($2,758 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $8,323 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -23.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $10,907 per ton, and then shrank notably in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($11,174 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($4,537 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+48.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, imports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms surged to $213M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 55%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
