The average export price for steel, alloy stood at $2,473 per ton in December 2023, reducing by -7.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 58% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,321 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Croatia ($4,349 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,564 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $3,587 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 14% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 25% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,156 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Japan ($3,674 per ton) and France ($3,502 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($2,978 per ton) and Poland ($3,030 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Steel, Alloy; Flat-Rolled, Width 600mm or More, of Silicon-Electrical Steel, Grain-Oriented in Germany
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of steel, alloy, when their volume decreased by -9.6% to 109K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12%.
In value terms, exports of steel, alloy skyrocketed to $271M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
