Price for Steel, Alloy; Ingots and Other Primary Forms in Poland (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses stood at $1,541 per ton in July 2023, surging by 10% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,629 per ton. From June 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,165 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($926 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses stood at $3,660 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -31% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 247% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,301 per ton, and then reduced sharply in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($3,909 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic amounted to $1,710 per ton.

From November 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Steel, Alloy; Ingots and Other Primary Forms in Poland

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses, when their volume decreased by -25.7% to 8.6K tons. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +49.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, exports of steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses expanded modestly to $13M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses shrank sharply to $3.2M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.3M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
