The average import price for styrene polymers; waste, parings and scraps stood at $700 per ton in December 2023, shrinking by -7.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $771 per ton in October 2023; however, from November 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($877 per ton), while the price for Iceland ($396 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In November 2023, the average export price for styrene polymers; waste, parings and scraps amounted to $856 per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 36% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $905 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,079 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($115 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
