In September 2023, the average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses amounted to $792 per ton, dropping by -4.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $834 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($974 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($525 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $727 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($528 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
